General data

Not surprisingly, given that Russia is one of the most important countries globally both in terms of natural resources/commodities, land mass, military power and also the high level of education of the population, numerous resources are available in English on-line that provide a useful introduction to general data, including statistical information, such as wikipedia, the CIA World Fact Book. Both of these sites are accessible free of charge.

Another excellent resource for more detailed information about GDP data, purchasing power parity, etc., is the Economist Intelligence Unit, albeit for a subscription fee.

I will add to this list as and when I have more time or receive information from other bloggers/writers.
