Rambler Media consolidating ownership of contextual advertising service

Rambler Media, which is part of Prof-Media  (owned by oligarch Vladimir Potanin), has acquired the 49.9 per cent interest in Begun held by Finam, thereby consolidating its ownership of the contextual advertising service provider.

Back in 2008 Google had sought to buy Begun for USD 140 million, only to be blocked by the Federal Antimonopoly Service owing to alleged security concerns. It is highly likely that Rambler Media paid far less for the provider, in particular as Begun now accounts for only 3 per cent of the market, whereas Google holds a 28 per cent market share.

So much for the security concerns….
